Homemade Treat Recipes

HOMEMADE COOKIES

Ingredients
      1 1/2 cup water
      1/2 cup vegetable oil
      2 medium eggs
      1/2 cup natural, unsalted crunchy peanut butter
      2 teaspoons vanilla
      2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
      3/4 cup unbleached flour
      1 cup oatmeal
      3/4 cup rolled oats

Mix water, oil, eggs, peanut butter and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Roll dough out onto floured board until approx 1/2 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut cookies and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in a preheated oven 400 for 15-20 minutes and leave cookies on sheet for 30 minutes to cool. Bake for 10-14 minutes in a pre-heated 350F oven. Cool and store in air-tight container.

 
CHICKEN CRUNCHIES

Ingredients
      3½ oz jar of chicken baby food (no onions)
      3/4 cup powdered skim milk
      1/2 cup wheat germ

Mix dry ingredients. Add baby food and mix thoroughly-dough may be stiff. Spray nonfat cooking spray onto cookie sheet. Drop tablespoon sized balls of dough onto sheet.

 Bake for 10-14 minutes in a pre-heated 350F oven. Cool and store in air-tight container. Dogs also love this recipe with beef baby food. Cats and dogs both love this recipe.

HIGH FIBER TREATS

Ingredients:
2 cups (1 lb) beef liver
3 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup non-fat ricotta cheese
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
1/2 cup white bean flour
1/4 cup flax seed meal

Preheat oven to 400F. Puree the liver in food processor. Add eggs and blend. Add pumpkin, ricotta, olive oil and blend until thoroughly mixed. Combine flours and flax seed meal in a separate bowl. Add the liquid mixture to the dry mixture and stir with a spoon into a sticky dough. Turn out onto a baking sheet covered with grease or non-stick foil. Use a spoon or spatula to push the dough to the edges of the baking sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes or until tops are firm and bottoms are browned. Allow the treats to cool on the baking sheet. When cool enough, turn the dough over, peel off the foil and cut into small treats. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

 LIVER & OATMEAL TREATS

1 1/4 c. quick oats
1/4 c non-fat dry milk
1/4 c wheat germ
1/4 lb beef or chicken liver
1 egg
1/4 c safflower oil 

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Puree liver in a food processor, then add egg and oil. Mix together. Add this wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix with a spoon to cookie-dough consistency. With a teaspoon, drop batter 1 inch apart into baking sheet covered with greased or non-stick foil.

Bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes or until cookies are firm to the touch. Store in airtight container or in refrigerator.

PUP POP TREATS

1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1/2 cup chicken broth

Whisk the yogurt and broth together until smooth. Spoon into an ice cube tray. Freeze for at least four hours or until frozen solid.  Pop out a cube at a time and serve to your dog on a hot day.shutterstock_43887793.jpg

 WHEAT-FREE TREATS

1/2 c cottage cheese
1 1/2 c garbanzo bean flour
1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese
14.5 oz can of salmon

Combine salmon & cottage cheese together in food processor. Add flour & cheese and mix into a sticky, loose dough.  Grease an 8x8 or 12x9 baking pan. Turn dough out into greased pan and push to edges with spatula. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. 

Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350F. Cool in pan & cut into pieces. Store in refrigerator.

SENSITIVE STOMACH TREATS

Try this recipe when your dog must be on a bland diet but is still up for a treat!

     1 (2.5 oz) jar of chicken or turkey baby food
     1/2 cup of puffed rice (cereal aisle)

In a medium bowl, mix the 2 ingredients. Make small balls by taking a pinch of the mixture and roll in your palm. Place on waxed paper or non-stick foil. Chill in refrigerator for at least two hours.  Store in an airtight container or refrigerator or freeze. Serve frozen or thawed. Mmmm!
