Access to water
is often taken for granted,
make sure to double check
that your pet has access to
FRESH, CLEAN WATER.
Water is Vital
  • Water makes up 80% of a pet's body.
  • Water provides the basis for nearly all of the processes and chemical reactions that keep the body running, including digestion and circulation.
  • It helps the body filter waste and regulates body temperature through evaporation.
  • Dehydration (a lack of water in the body) can cause serious problems including kidney and heart damage.
  • General rule of thumb: most animals should have 28ml (1/40th of a liter) of water per pound per day. So, a 40# dog needs about one liter of water every day.
Check the water supply
  • Make sure the bowl is clean. It should be cleaned daily.
  • Make sure they cannot knock over their water bowl.
  • Avoid having your pet drink from the toilet.
  • If you take your pet exercising, bring some water for him.
  • Water will evaporate on warm days. Make sure there is water in the bowl.
  • Don't use a large water bucket that a pet could accidentally drown  or is too tall for them to reach the water.
  • Cats love moving water-try purchasing a cat water fountain to increase water consumption.
